Tang Tsz Wai Cheri is a Hong Kong-based interdisciplinary artist whose practice investigates the intersections of synesthesia, materiality, and sound. A 2025 Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate from RMIT University and Hong Kong Art School (Dean's List), Cheri combines clay forms with industrial found objects to create site-responsive, kinetic installations. Seeking to reimagine the possibilities of ceramics as a static medium, her work focuses on the tactile and acoustic frequencies inherent within raw materials.
Cheri’s methodology is rooted in urban observation and improvisational practice, capturing and translating fleeting environmental narratives directly from the field. Through her participation in soundpocket’s Artist Support Programme 2025–26, she continues to evolve her practice across diverse spatial conditions and production timelines. Her exhibition history includes two 2026 solo projects: [pocketed grounds] ↔ ([[o]]) Bells at Art Center Ongoing (Tokyo) and ([[o]]) Bells: The Resonance of Perceptions at Indige Studio (Hong Kong).
Her recent group exhibitions include Celebrating Traditional Wisdom Through Art (presented by the Centre for Civil Society and Governance of The University of Hong Kong at Anita Chan Lai Ling Gallery, Fringe Club), The Shape of Yearning at PMQ’s deTour 2025, and Sonic Anchor #48: On that note, co-presented by Contemporary Musiking Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Arts Centre. As a recipient of the "智韵瓷章・新銳突破" award at the 2nd National College Student Ceramic Works Exhibition, Cheri integrates her background in acoustic ceramics and spatial installation into collaborative frameworks, offering multi-sensory perspectives to explore collective urban encounters with fellow practitioners.

BAFA Graduate Exhibition 2025 – Artist Interview: Tang Tsz Wai Cheri

"Imagine a world where call bells sing and clay hums with hidden melodies. For BAFA graduate Tang Tsz Wai Cheri, this is not fantasy but her artistic reality.
Inspired by childhood memories of metallic playground echoes, Cheri transforms ordinary ceramics and found objects into enchanting sound installations. Her work invites us to slow down, listen closely, and discover the unexpected music hidden in the materials around us."
